Score First Victory, New Hampshire Slots Bill Crushed - January,
2002
On Thursday, January 31, the New Hampshire House of Representatives
voted on a bill that would have legalized slot machines at Granite
State dog tracks. This was the first floor vote on dog track slot
machines in 2002.
Thanks to the hard work of the Granite State Coalition Against
Expanded Gambling, House Bill 1353 was defeated 217-130. This
is a tremendous victory and we are optimistic that if we work
hard this will be only the beginning of a string of victories
for the greyhounds.
However, despite this resounding victory, the fight in New Hampshire
is far from over. The tracks have vowed to bring similar legislation
back to the House floor, and it is likely that the New Hampshire
legislature will address this issue again later in the session.
